An adult female suffered life-threatening injuries and 3 firefighters were transported with minor injuries as a result of a 2-alarm fire at a townhouse located on the 6800 block of Clowser Court in Springfield, VA.
A Fairfax County Fire official says it took aggressive action by 85 firefighters to contain the fire and prevent extension to neighboring townhomes.
The official says they received the call at approximately 7:57 a.m. Saturday and that, when they arrived on the scene, the 3 adults and 1 child who lived in the home had escaped the fire. But, the official says, an adult female was treated at the scene and flown to the Burn Unit at MEDSTAR in critical condition.
Three firefighters were transported to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with minor injuries.
Fire officials say the fire apparently started in the kitchen but they are still investigating what caused it. The fire gutted the first and second floors of the unit and the Red Cross is assisting the occupants with temporary shelter.
